Gro Baby Diaper Review Update

by Rachel McFadden on September 22, 2009

I have been using my Gro Baby diapers for a few months now and I am going to write a follow up review.  I still love that the shell is reusable for multiple diaper changes, but i do find that with a heavy wetter like my son it gets a bit stinky and I am not able to just air it out.  P7010002

I love the fit, it is very trim and makes it easy for my son to wiggle around without feeling restricted.

The inserts are very thick and hold a large amount of liquid without leaking and the doublers for overnight are great!  The inserts do take the longest time to dry out of all of my diaper inserts when I air dry and even if I put them in the dryer.

The velcro has yet to pill (just as it claims), but they do form a diaper chain in the wash when I wash them with other velcro diapers (i.e. Bum Genius).  The fold over tabs are not very strong and never hold.  The downside to the velcro is that because it is not as strong as other types of velcro I have actually walked in on my son when he has taken the diaper off himself!!  This is not a huge issue, I am just sure to put clothes on him so that he cannot take the diaper off, but maybe next time I’ll try the Gro Baby diapers with snaps.

The outer shell material is TPU rather than the traditional PUL which is also used on The Nautral Baby Company’s Dream-Eze Diapers, which I had used when Connor fit into size small diapers.  This material seems to pill, not a lot, but enough so that it does not look brand new.  I don’t know if I can attribute the pilling to washing the diapers with other velcro diaper or if this would have happened whether or not I did this.

Overall, I am still very satisfied with the Gro Baby system, but it make sense to look at the issues you will have with the diaper over time.

I’ve had similar experiences with my GroBaby. The laundry tabs don’t hold very well anymore and the tabs end up snagging on the inner lining. It’s a shame because I love the small hooks that are not scratchy (as I tend to have my LO sans pants around the house)!

I am a current G-Diaper user (with disposable inserts). My little one started getting a rash on the upper portion of his backside ( urine and feces rarely ever get there) so I started the search for another diaper. The Gro Baby diaper seems to fit the criteria that I am looking for; it has the convenience of a disposable, with the tenderness of a cloth diaper. All blogs have given good reviews, or conservatively critical ones. i appreciate the candor of your bloggers to help with my research. Have you seen the SNAPS version of the Gro baby? That may solve the issue of the “diaper chain” and the lack of “stick” All in all, the Gro Baby seems promising to me.
