It is a nice feeling to have a full freezer of meat huh?

You should have kept the liver for yourselves as well .. although I am not sure I have actually had cow liver. I love elk and deer as well as poultry liver, plus it is an excellent source of iron for those looking for a boost .. would would most likely be an easy chew for Connor as well.

You should try making some jerky out of some of it .. you can make all sorts of marinades and have healthy, high protein snacks anytime. Another favorite of mine is taking parts that don't make up great cuts and storing them in small collections of bite size pieces ready to go for either stew or stir fry.

That is awesome that you were able to have a butcher to prepare the cuts for you .. I know that that allows it more accessible for many people. Thanks for continuing to show every one how they can eat what they love in a healthier way both for them and our Earth.

We get a half of a hog every year. It is delicious. I am higly sensitive to MSG (which is in just about everything) so we get our bacon and sausage with s special blend of seasoning. Fresh beef is fantastic as well as fresh chicken and eggs. oh, and butter too.

One thing needs to be said is that the flavor is strong if you are used to store bought stuff. I recommend buying a small portion first and trying it.

We have done this before with pork and beef, and (sorry any vegetarians out there), the hanging weight is all you pay on (price per pound) so you're not paying $8 for steak and $3 for hamburger or whatnot. I think it ended up being $2.50 per pound plus the cost of the animal itself, and we could eat for months off of half an animal.

If you can't get to a 'farmer' try a local butcher instead of a grocery store. Look up MEAT LOCKER or Meat packing in your phone book or internet search. Food tastes WAY better and often they have better prices.
