TICKI TACKI TOYS

Introduce yourself. What is your shop name/url?
TickiTackiToys, www.tickitackitoys.etsy.com
Josh builds our toys and Tember stains, finishes, does the housekeeping and shipping.
How long has your shop been open on Etsy?
November 22, 2008, So just 1 year.
Is your Etsy shop a hobby or a career?
Our Etsy shop is a hobby/part time job. It started as a way to create toys for our children and as a creative outlet. Now it is a steady flow of orders, that keeps us busy at night and on weekends.
How did you get started?
We wanted to make toys for our girls that we knew where safe. It was kind of spur of the moment, “Let’s make toys” and we went out bought some lumber and just got started.
Do you sell your product(s) elsewhere? If so, where?
We have some wholesale people here, friends and family, but mostly through Esty. We are working on our own website, www.tickitackitoys.com. But currently it just links back to our Etsy site.
Do you feel that Etsy has provided you with a supportive community to sell your products?
We think Etsy is a great place to buy local and handmade. We buy most of our gifts from other Etsy sellers. And it is also a great place to trade with other crafters.
What is/are the product(s) that you sell?
We sell all wood baby and toddler toys. Right now Stackers, Rattles and Teethers. We are working on other variations and some new toys now.
What is the most popular item that you sell?
Our stacker seems to be the most popular. Now we offer a package of all of our toys at a discounted rate, which has become pretty popular.
What materials do you use to create your product(s)?
We use wood (maple, poplar, ipe), fruits, veggies, beeswax, flaxseed oil. Some of our new toys we are using mahogany.
Do you create your product(s) with the environment in mind?
Yes we do. We always try to find use for our scraps so nothing goes to waste. We reuse packing material as much as possible. And we compost all of the wood chips.
What makes your shop unique?
We think what attracts people to our shop is the fact that we stain our toys with fruits and veggies. We think that it sets us apart from a lot of other toys.
What do you love about what you do?
We love the responses that we get from people who have bought our toys. It really makes it feel like all the time and effort we put in is worth it.
How do you market your products?
Marketing right now is mostly just on Etsy and word of mouth.
Why do you make and sell products through Etsy?
Etsy is a great community of people and we don’t feel like there is any other online market that compares.
