My husband is studying for his masters in Recreation and Parks Management. As part of his current class he was required to
read “Last Child in the Woods,” by Richard Louv. I have yet to read the book, but he said that it was great! The book describes cutting-edge studies that pointed to direct exposure to nature as essential for a child’s healthy physical and emotional development. Evidence links the lack of exposure to nature to the rise in obesity, attention disorders, and depression.
Since this book was published, the government has increased activism to ‘leave no child inside’ to get more children in the woods and promote a ‘green hour’ in each day. The Boston Globe describes this book as “an absolute must-read for parents.
This book is next on my list to read, as soon as I finish I will definitely write a follow-up post with a full review of the book! I can’t wait!
